Adventist Ministry in College and Universities (AMiCUS) University of the Philippines (UP) Diliman chapter headed a campus crusade at Balay Kalinaw Hall, UP Diliman, Quezon City on March 5-10, 2007.
Featuring “Sa Tampipi,” a suitcase made of pandan or buri leaves, the native bag served to describe the different facets of life. Dr. Francisco “Kuya Kiks” Gayoba, North Philippine Union Mission (NPUM) ministerial secretary/youth director, delivered the nightly messages. Dr. Gayoba uncovered the tampipi and exposed the subject material each night to relate the actual fundamental life skills. The first night started with the topic “Pursuit of a Greener Pasture.” A magnetic compass was used to symbolize the life skills’ guide to a sure destiny. A continuous group Bible study was also planned in coordination with NPUM and Central Luzon Conference Youth Departments after the one week evangelism series.
The crusade signaled the start of the AmiCUS UP Diliman Chapter’s participation in the global Adventist thrust Jesus is Coming—Tell the World.

Vilme de Jesus Mejia, daughter of Ret. Col. And Mrs. Villamor Mejia, is a graduate of Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Adventist University of the Philippines. Her mother is an Adventist while her father was a Catholic. Being active in the Philippine Army, her father used to come home once in a while. For many years, Col. Mejia’s heart was not convinced with the Adventist doctrine. There came a time that he was forcing his family to raise hogs. Vilme, her mother, brothers, and sister stood like the Rock of Gibraltar amid the tempest. They did not allow anyone to sway them from following the Lord’s will because they were perfectly sure that God would never fail them. Their persistence on being faithful led to the baptism of her father when he retired from the military.
In 2001, Vilme went to Canada as an independent immigrant. Although working in a foreign land, she did not forget her being faithful to the Lord. While attending an occasion, one of her Adventist friends introduced to her a lady by the name of Arlene de Castro. She’s a native of Quezon Province and working as a nurse in Canada. Arlene requested Vilme if she could accommodate her in the latter’s apartment. With gladness in her heart, Vilme accepted the request of her Adventist friend. At the back of her mind, she now had the chance to witness for Jesus.
Witnessing is Vilme’s way of life. One day, when she was sending tithe money through her mother in the Philippines, Arlene asked about it with curiosity. “What is tithe?” Vilme answered that tithe is for the Lord and it is being used for the furtherance of God’s work. She further explained that she is just returning what is due for the Lord. Arlene was enlightened on Vilme’s explanation about the tithe. She asked Vilme if she could also send tithe money to the Philippines. So Arlene started sending tithe to the Philippines even though she was not yet an Adventist Christian.
Arlene felt the difference in her life. She began to realize that the Lord’s blessings come in different ways. An evangelistic crusade was held in Alberta. Vilme invited Arlene to attend and at the climax of the crusade, Arlene accepted Jesus as her personal savior. At present, Vilme and Arlene are worshipping together in a Seventh-day Adventist Church in Alberta, Canada. They are happily serving the Lord in the said place and they do believe that giving is a privilege and opportunity to show one’s love to others.
Friends, why not commit yourselves to be a living witness for Jesus? Jesus needs you to be His followers right now!
